Rocket Mortgage Statement: Finding It and Reading It
Quick Answer: Your Rocket Mortgage statement is available in your online Rocket Account once your loan is set up there, and year-end tax documents such as Form 1098 are typically kept in the same account. The statement itself follows a federal format: the amount due and due date at the top, a breakdown into principal, interest and escrow, payments received, recent transactions, and account details such as the outstanding principal and interest rate.
A Rocket Mortgage statement is the monthly bill and account summary your servicer sends for your home loan. You can view it online in your Rocket Account or get it by mail if you haven't switched to paperless. Most of what it shows is set by a federal rule, so once you know where each piece sits, you can read any month's statement in under a minute.

Where do you find your Rocket Mortgage statement online?
Rocket Mortgage's statements and documents live in the borrower account at rocketmortgage.com. We couldn't load Rocket's help pages to confirm the current menu wording, so here is the general route rather than exact button names:
- Sign in to your Rocket Account on the website or in the app.
- Choose the loan if you have more than one.
- Open the area that holds your documents and statements. Monthly statements, escrow analyses and year-end tax forms are typically kept there together.
- Select the month and download the PDF. Save it with the year and month in the file name so it sorts in order.
If the loan has just closed or was recently transferred from another servicer, there can be a gap before the account shows a full statement history. Your welcome letter or first mailed statement will have your loan number, which you need to set up online access. For anything you can't find, Rocket's customer service can mail or post a copy.
Switching to paperless
Paperless delivery means the statement is posted online and you get an email when it is ready instead of a paper copy. It doesn't change the content. If you go paperless, make a habit of downloading each statement; a servicer's archive is convenient, but you lose it if the loan is later sold or refinanced elsewhere.
What does a Rocket Mortgage statement show?
Mortgage statements in the US follow Regulation Z, section 1026.41, which the CFPB publishes in full on its periodic statement rule page. The rule lists what a servicer must include, and in roughly which part of the page. Here is what each part means for you:
| Section of the statement | What it contains | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Amount due | The payment due date, the late fee and the date it kicks in, and the total amount due, printed more prominently than anything else | That the due date and amount match what you schedule |
| Explanation of amount due | The monthly payment split into principal, interest and escrow, plus fees charged since the last statement and any past-due amount | Any fee you don't recognize |
| Past payment breakdown | Payments received since the last statement and so far this year, split the same way, plus anything held in suspense | That your last payment was applied in full |
| Transaction activity | Date, short description and amount for each item that changed the balance since the last statement | Extra principal payments showing as principal, not escrow |
| Partial payment information | What happens to money that was less than a full payment and is being held unapplied | Unapplied funds that should have been posted |
| Contact information | A toll-free number and, where offered, an email address for questions | Use these for written disputes |
| Account information | Outstanding principal balance, current interest rate, the date the rate can next change, whether there is a prepayment penalty, and housing counselor contact details | The rate and balance against your own records |
| Delinquency information | Shown only if the loan is 45 days or more behind, with the amount needed to bring it current and the risks | Act quickly if this appears |
The rule also lets some loans use a coupon book instead of monthly statements, and exempts small servicers, so not every mortgage looks like this. A large servicer's statement for a standard loan should carry all of these sections.
Why doesn't the balance on my statement equal what I'd pay to close the loan?
The outstanding principal is what you owe in principal as of the statement date. Paying off the loan also requires interest that has built up since your last payment and any fees you haven't paid. The CFPB's answer on payoff amounts puts it simply: your payoff amount is different from your current balance. If you are refinancing or selling, ask for a payoff quote; our mortgage payoff statement guide explains how that document differs from the monthly one.
What should you do if something on the statement looks wrong?
Start by comparing the statement with your own records: the date your payment left your bank account, the amount, and whether you asked for any extra to go to principal. Most surprises turn out to be timing (a payment received after the statement date) or escrow (a tax bill paid since the last statement).
If it still looks wrong, contact the servicer using the contact details printed on the statement and keep notes of who you spoke to and when. For anything that affects money, such as a fee you think is wrong or a payment applied to the wrong bucket, put it in writing as well, attach the statement page and your bank statement showing the payment, and keep a copy. A written record is far more useful later than a memory of a phone call.
What tax documents does Rocket Mortgage provide?
Two documents matter at tax time:
- Form 1098, Mortgage Interest Statement. The IRS's Form 1098 instructions require a lender in the business of lending to report $600 or more of mortgage interest received from an individual on one mortgage. Box 1 shows mortgage interest received, Box 2 the outstanding principal, Box 5 mortgage insurance premiums, Box 6 points, and Box 10 can show other items, such as property tax paid from escrow. Our guide to the mortgage interest statement goes through each box.
- Escrow account statement. Servicers review escrow accounts each year and send a statement that shows taxes and insurance paid on your behalf, any shortage or surplus, and the new monthly escrow amount.
Your December statement and the 1098 should agree on interest paid for the year. If they don't, it is usually because a payment was made right at year end; check the date it was received.
How can you keep a usable record of your mortgage payments?
Mortgage statements prove what the servicer received. Your bank statements prove what left your account. For a refinance, a dispute about a late fee, or a rental property's books, you often need both side by side.
- Save every monthly mortgage statement PDF in a folder per year.
- Keep the bank statements that show the payments leaving your checking account.
- If you track payments in a spreadsheet, pull the payment rows from the bank statements. QuickBankConvert reads bank statement PDFs into rows of date, description and signed amount, which makes it easy to filter to the mortgage payments; a preview on the convert page needs no account.
- Note any extra principal payments separately, with the date and amount, and check that the next statement shows them in the principal column.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my Rocket Mortgage payment different from last year?
The most common reason is escrow. When property taxes or homeowners insurance go up, the servicer recalculates the escrow part of your payment after its annual escrow review, even though principal and interest stay the same on a fixed-rate loan.
Is the principal balance on my statement my payoff amount?
No. The CFPB explains that the payoff amount adds interest due through the day you pay off the loan and any unpaid fees, so it is usually higher than the balance shown. Request a payoff quote when you need the exact figure.
Where is my Form 1098 from Rocket Mortgage?
Servicers furnish Form 1098 to borrowers who paid $600 or more of mortgage interest on a loan in the year. Look in the documents area of your online account early in the year, or wait for the mailed copy if you are not on paperless delivery.
My loan was just transferred to Rocket Mortgage. Will my old statements move too?
Your previous servicer's statements stay with that servicer, so download them from its site while you still have access. The new servicer's statements start with the first payment it collects.
