Convert a U.S. Bank statement to Excel or CSV

5 min read

Quick answer

U.S. Bank lets you download recent transactions directly as CSV, Quicken or QuickBooks files, but only for the last 18 months. Statements go back further: up to seven years as PDFs. To get transactions older than 18 months, or from any statement you only have as a PDF, upload the PDF to QuickBankConvert and download the rows as CSV or Excel (free account) or QBO (Plus).

First check whether you need a converter at all

For recent activity, you may not. U.S. Bank's help page How do I download my transaction history? describes a built-in export (read on 4 October 2026):

  1. Select the account you want the history for.
  2. Within the Transactions tile, select the download icon in the top right corner.
  3. Choose the date range and file format, then select Download.

The formats offered are Spreadsheet (.CSV), Quicken (.QFX) and QuickBooks (.QBO), covering up to 18 months. The same page states the limit plainly: "Transactions older than 18 months cannot be downloaded into one of these files. You'll find those older transactions on your statements."

If everything you need is inside that window and the account is still open, use the bank's export. It is free, and a QBO file issued by the bank is what QuickBooks expects.

When the PDF is the only source

  • History older than 18 months, for a tax filing, an amended return, a loan file or catching up several years of bookkeeping.
  • A closed account that no longer appears in online banking, where saved PDFs are all that is left.
  • Statements someone sent you. Bookkeepers and accountants usually receive PDFs from clients, not online banking access.
  • Paper statements you scanned. These convert, with the accuracy caveat below.

How to download a U.S. Bank statement PDF

From U.S. Bank's help page How do I view, print and download electronic statements and other documents? (read on 4 October 2026):

  1. Online banking: select Accounts from the menu at the top. Mobile app: from the main menu choose Statements & docs.
  2. Select the document type you want to view.
  3. Choose the account from the dropdown menu. Select a different document year for older statements.
  4. Select the link for the statement to view, print or download it.

U.S. Bank says you can view up to seven years of e-statements, and that the latest one appears after your billing cycle closes. Menu names change; if yours differ, the bank's page above is the current reference.

How to convert it

  1. Upload the PDF to the converter.
  2. Check the preview against the statement.
  3. Download the format you need. For a spreadsheet, CSV or Excel. For accounting software, see the QuickBooks guide or the Xero guide.

Converting several years means one upload per monthly statement. On Pro, batch upload takes a set of PDFs at once and converts them three at a time.

What comes out

One row per transaction with date, description, category, amount and balance (the balance only when the statement prints a running balance). Amounts are signed: money out is negative. The account number, statement period and opening and closing balances are read from the statement and shown above the preview so you can check them.

On-screen preview onlyNo account: one statement every 24 hours, up to 5 pages
CSV, ExcelFree account: 3 statements a month, up to 10 pages each
QBO, QIF, Xero CSV, TSV, JSONPlus, $29 a month: 50 statements a month, up to 50 pages each
The Plus formats, with batch upload and client labelsPro, $59 a month: 200 statements a month, up to 100 pages each
The same as ProBusiness, $99 a month: 600 statements a month, up to 100 pages each

A statement longer than your plan's page limit is turned away before it is converted, so it does not use up a conversion. Files can be up to 4.4 MB. Current plans are on the pricing page.

What to check, and what can go wrong

  • Compare the totals. Before downloading, check the first and last rows and the closing balance against the PDF. We do not publish accuracy figures for U.S. Bank or any other bank; the preview is there so you can verify the result yourself.
  • Use the PDF the bank generates. A scan or a phone photo of a paper statement is an image, and it is read less accurately than a PDF downloaded from online banking.
  • Password-protected PDFs are supported: you are asked for the password when you upload.
  • Your file is uploaded. It travels over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, is parsed on our servers, and a copy is stored. Ask us to delete it through the contact page. We never ask for your U.S. Bank login. See the Privacy Policy.
  • Combined statements. If one PDF covers more than one account, the result is a single list of transactions under one account header. Split the rows by account in the spreadsheet before importing anywhere.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I download U.S. Bank transactions as CSV without a converter?

Yes, for the last 18 months. U.S. Bank's transaction download offers CSV, Quicken (.QFX) and QuickBooks (.QBO) files. Its help page says transactions older than 18 months cannot be downloaded that way and are found on statements, which is when converting the statement PDF helps.

How far back do U.S. Bank online statements go?

U.S. Bank's help page says you can view up to seven years of e-statements in digital banking.

Do I need to give you my U.S. Bank login?

No. You download the statement PDF yourself and upload only that file. Nothing connects to your online banking.

What does it cost to convert a U.S. Bank statement?

Previewing the parsed transactions needs no account (one statement every 24 hours, up to 5 pages). CSV and Excel downloads are free with a free account: 3 statements a month, up to 10 pages each. Plus ($29 a month) allows 50 statements a month of up to 50 pages and adds QBO, QIF, Xero CSV, TSV and JSON. Pro ($59 a month) allows 200 statements a month of up to 100 pages and adds batch upload and client labels. Business ($99 a month) allows 600 statements a month.

Can I convert a whole year of U.S. Bank statements at once?

Each monthly statement is its own upload. On the Pro plan, batch upload accepts several PDFs together and converts them three at a time; each statement becomes its own conversion with its own download.
