Convert a USAA bank statement to Excel or CSV

6 min read

Quick answer

USAA delivers bank statements to a page called My Documents on usaa.com and in the USAA Mobile App. Open the statement, use the Menu icon to download it, upload the PDF to QuickBankConvert, check the rows in the preview, and download CSV or Excel with a free account. For statements older than 18 months, use the Filter option and extend the Delivery date range. You never share your USAA logon.

How to download a USAA statement

These steps come from three USAA pages, all read on 4 October 2026: Managing Online Documents FAQs, Documents Online and the video transcript How to go Paperless.

USAA Mobile App

  1. Log on to the app.
  2. Select your initials in the upper right corner.
  3. Tap My Documents in the menu.
  4. Open the statement you need.
  5. After viewing the document, go to the Menu icon to print or download it.

usaa.com

  1. Log on to usaa.com.
  2. Go to the My Documents page.
  3. Open the statement you need.
  4. After viewing the document, go to the Menu icon and select download to save it to your computer.

USAA's public pages name the My Documents page but do not describe the clicks that lead to it on usaa.com, so follow what your screen shows. USAA's Banking Support page also has a View statements link, described as "Review, download or print your USAA Bank account statements".

For converting, usaa.com on a computer is simpler: the file is saved where you will upload it from.

Finding older statements

USAA's FAQ says: "To view documents beyond 18 months, click the Filter option and extend the Delivery date range to the timeframe needed." If a statement from two years ago is not in the list, that filter is the first thing to change.

USAA does not publish a fixed number of years for statements. Its FAQ says "Your document availability timeline varies for each document" and adds that it is good practice to save or print important documents for your records. We do not state a retention period here because USAA does not state one.

Two more details from the same FAQ:

  • Sorting. Documents are sorted by delivery date. On usaa.com, click the arrows beside the column headers to change the order. In the app, use the Filter option and choose a Sort by method.
  • Expired documents. USAA says it may be able to research and retrieve an expired document, and that there may be a fee. The number it gives is 877-632-3002.

If you may need history later, for a tax return, a loan application or a dispute, download each statement as it is issued and keep your own archive. Once you hold the PDF, it can be converted at any time.

Paper and online delivery

USAA lets you choose paper or online delivery. From the My Documents page, select Manage Paperless, then turn Paperless for all documents on or off. USAA says online documents arrive 3 to 5 days faster than by mail.

USAA lists these formats: online, paper, large print, Braille and screen reader. A paper, large print or Braille statement has to be scanned before it can be uploaded. A scanned statement converts less accurately than the file downloaded from My Documents, so use the online copy when it exists.

How to convert it

  1. Upload the PDF to the converter.
  2. Check the preview against the statement: first row, last row and closing balance.
  3. Download CSV or Excel for a spreadsheet. For accounting software, see the QuickBooks guide or the Xero guide.

Each monthly statement is one upload. For several years of history, Pro's batch upload takes a set of PDFs and converts them three at a time.

Checking, savings and credit cards

All three convert through the same steps. Two things differ for a credit card statement:

  • Signs. Purchases come out as negative amounts and payments or credits as positive. Confirm that on the first few rows, because accounting software can expect the opposite for a liability account.
  • The QBO and QIF exports label the account as a bank account. You choose the real account when importing; details are on the PDF to QBO page. For a spreadsheet this does not matter, and there is a separate guide for credit card statements to Excel.

What comes out

One row per transaction with date, description, category, amount and balance (the balance only when the statement prints a running balance). Amounts are signed: money out is negative. The account number, statement period and opening and closing balances are read from the statement and shown above the preview so you can check them.

DownloadPlan
On-screen preview onlyNo account: one statement every 24 hours, up to 5 pages
CSV, ExcelFree account: 3 statements a month, up to 10 pages each
QBO, QIF, Xero CSV, TSV, JSONPlus, $29 a month: 50 statements a month, up to 50 pages each
The Plus formats, with batch upload and client labelsPro, $59 a month: 200 statements a month, up to 100 pages each
The same as ProBusiness, $99 a month: 600 statements a month, up to 100 pages each

A statement longer than your plan's page limit is turned away before it is converted, so it does not use up a conversion. Files can be up to 4.4 MB. Current plans are on the pricing page.

What to check, and what can go wrong

  • Compare the totals. Before downloading, check the first and last rows and the closing balance against the PDF. We do not publish accuracy figures for USAA or any other bank; the preview is there so you can verify the result yourself.
  • Use the PDF the bank generates. A scan or a phone photo of a paper statement is an image, and it is read less accurately than a PDF downloaded from online banking.
  • Password-protected PDFs are supported: you are asked for the password when you upload.
  • Your file is uploaded. It travels over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, is parsed on our servers, and a copy is stored. Ask us to delete it through the contact page. We never ask for your USAA login. See the Privacy Policy.
  • Combined statements. If one PDF covers more than one account, the result is a single list of transactions. Split the rows by account in the spreadsheet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are statements on usaa.com and in the USAA app?

On the My Documents page. In the USAA Mobile App, select your initials in the upper right corner, then tap My Documents in the menu. After viewing a document, use the Menu icon to print or download it. These details are from USAA's Managing Online Documents FAQs and its How to go Paperless video transcript, read on 4 October 2026.

How do I find a USAA statement older than 18 months?

USAA says to click the Filter option and extend the Delivery date range to the timeframe you need. USAA does not publish a fixed number of years; it says the availability timeline varies for each document.

What if my USAA statement has expired?

USAA says it may be able to research and retrieve an expired document, and that there may be a fee. The number it gives is 877-632-3002. Once you have the statement as a PDF, it converts the same way.

Can I convert a USAA credit card statement?

Yes. It converts the same way as a checking statement. Purchases come out as negative amounts and payments as positive; check the signs on the first rows before importing into accounting software.

Do I need to give you my USAA logon?

No. You download the statement yourself and upload only that file. Nothing connects to your USAA account.

What does it cost?

Previewing needs no account (one statement every 24 hours, up to 5 pages). CSV and Excel downloads are free with a free account: 3 statements a month, up to 10 pages each. Plus ($29 a month) allows 50 statements a month of up to 50 pages and adds QBO, QIF, Xero CSV, TSV and JSON. Pro ($59 a month) allows 200 statements a month of up to 100 pages and adds batch upload and client labels. Business ($99 a month) allows 600 statements a month.
