PayPal Prepaid Bank Statement After the Card Closed

6 min readOctober 27, 2026

Quick Answer: The PayPal Prepaid Mastercard program ended on April 30, 2026. Statements and transaction history for it come from Netspend, not from your PayPal account. Call Netspend Customer Service at 866-387-7363 to request them. If you moved to a Netspend card, manage it and see its activity at netspend.com.

A "PayPal prepaid bank statement" means the transaction history for the PayPal Prepaid Mastercard, a separate card program that Netspend managed outside your PayPal account. PayPal discontinued that program on April 30, 2026. Its records now sit with Netspend, which you contact for statements, while PayPal Balance statements still come from PayPal itself.

What happened to the PayPal Prepaid Mastercard?

PayPal's prepaid card page now carries a closure FAQ instead of a sign-up form. The timeline it gives:

Date (2026)What PayPal says happened
January 12โ€“30Accounts with a zero balance and no activity for over a year were closed
March 17Letters mailed to all active cardholders at their address on file, offering two choices
April 30Deadline to accept a Netspend card; the program was discontinued and all accounts closed

The two choices in the March letter were to transition to a Netspend Prepaid Mastercard (by activating the card enclosed with the notice, or ordering one through customer service), or to spend down the balance by April 30 or receive a refund check.

After April 30, PayPal says any attempted loads, direct deposits or debit transactions on the old card are rejected. The change affects only the prepaid card: other PayPal services, the PayPal Debit Mastercard, and any other Netspend accounts you hold continue as before.

Which of the three outcomes applies to you?

Your path to the old records depends on what happened to your card, so work this out first:

  • You activated the Netspend card before April 30. Your account carried on under Netspend. New activity is online at netspend.com; older prepaid-card months may need a phone request.
  • You did nothing and had money on the card. Your account closed on April 30 and the balance comes back as a check. Your history is available only by request.
  • Your card was dormant with a zero balance. It was likely closed in January. There may be little history to request, but if you need proof the account existed and ended at zero, Netspend customer service is still the place to ask.

If you are not sure which group you fall into, the March 17 letter set out the choices for active cards, and Netspend customer service is the place to confirm what happened to yours.

How do you get statements for the closed prepaid card?

Because the card always ran on Netspend's systems, Netspend holds the records. PayPal's FAQ states it plainly: you can still contact Netspend Customer Service at 866-387-7363 to request account details such as transaction history, statements or balance information.

What to have ready when you call:

  • the card number, or at least its last four digits, and the name on the account,
  • the date range you need (for example, January 1 to April 30, 2026, for this year's taxes),
  • the address the statements should go to, if it changed since you held the card, and
  • the reason, if it matters for the format, such as a lender who wants a document showing the account holder's name.

If you are calling about a refund check rather than history, the same number handles both. PayPal says checks for balances of $1.00 or more were mailed automatically, to allow up to four weeks, and to call if the check never arrived or your address has changed. For balances under $1.00 you must call to request one. PayPal says there are no fees for check requests tied to the closure.

If you moved to a Netspend card

If you accepted the Netspend offer, PayPal says you keep using your funds normally on the new Netspend Prepaid Mastercard, manage the account at netspend.com, and may be asked to create new login credentials there. Your activity from that point onward is on Netspend's site and app like any Netspend account.

Whether Netspend's online history reaches back before the switch is not something PayPal's FAQ addresses. If the months you need predate your transition, ask customer service for them rather than assuming they appear online.

Is it different from a PayPal Balance statement?

Yes, and confusing the two is why people search their PayPal account for prepaid card activity and find nothing.

  • The PayPal Prepaid Mastercard was a reloadable card account that Netspend managed, outside your PayPal login. Spending at a store with that card showed up on the card's own records.
  • PayPal Balance is money held in your PayPal account. Its history and monthly statements are inside PayPal.

PayPal's statements and reports help page describes the PayPal side: monthly statements are requested at paypal.com/reports/accountStatements, and activity reports can cover up to the past seven years in PDF, Quicken, QuickBooks, CSV or tab-delimited format, up to 12 months per request. Our PayPal bank statement guide walks through those downloads.

Where the two accounts meet is a transfer: moving money from PayPal to the prepaid card, or loading the card from PayPal, appears in PayPal history as a single line. The individual purchases made with the card do not. The PayPal-branded credit card is a third, unrelated product; its statements are covered in our PayPal Mastercard statement guide.

Why you might still need the old history

The card is closed, but its records can matter for a while:

  1. Taxes. If you were paid onto the card through direct deposit, or paid business expenses with it, the history is your evidence for income and deductions in 2026.
  2. Disputes. PayPal says closing the account does not forfeit your rights. To dispute a transaction or follow up an existing claim, call 866-387-7363, email customerservice@netspend.com, or write to Netspend, P.O. Box 2136, Austin, TX 78768-2163.
  3. Benefits or rental applications. Some applications ask for every account you held in a recent period, including closed ones. A statement showing the final zero balance answers that.
  4. Reconciling your budget. If you tracked spending by month, the prepaid card's last months fill the gap before you switched to another account.

Ask for the history sooner rather than later. PayPal's FAQ gives no cutoff for these requests, but a closed account's records are not something you can download yourself any more, and a mailed statement takes longer to arrive than a download.

Turning the statements into a spreadsheet

Statements sent for a closed account usually arrive as PDFs or paper. If you need the transactions as rows for a tax spreadsheet or budget, you have choices: type them in if there are only a few, use a PDF table tool, or upload the PDF to QuickBankConvert, which reads each transaction into date, description, amount and balance columns and exports CSV or Excel. A free account allows a few statements a month, and the pricing page has the rest. Scanned paper copies read less accurately than original PDFs, so check totals against the statement.

Other prepaid and payroll card programs keep records the same way, apart from the app you normally use; our myWisely bank statement guide shows how one of them handles history requests.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still get statements for my old PayPal Prepaid Mastercard?

Yes. PayPal's closure FAQ says you can contact Netspend Customer Service at 866-387-7363 to request transaction history, statements or balance information for the closed account.

Are PayPal Prepaid card transactions in my PayPal account history?

The prepaid card was a separate account managed by Netspend, so its card activity is on Netspend's records. Your PayPal history shows only money that moved through PayPal itself, such as a transfer to or from the card.

I did not switch to Netspend. Where is my money?

PayPal says remaining balances of $1.00 or more are mailed as a refund check to your address on file, allowing up to four weeks. For balances under $1.00, call 866-387-7363 to request a check; there are no fees for these checks.

Is the PayPal Debit Card affected by the prepaid card closure?

No. PayPal says the PayPal Debit Mastercard is not affected by the end of the PayPal Prepaid Mastercard program.

Can I still dispute a charge on the closed prepaid card?

PayPal's FAQ says closing the account does not forfeit your rights. Call 866-387-7363, email customerservice@netspend.com, or write to Netspend, P.O. Box 2136, Austin, TX 78768-2163.
