PayPal Bank Statement: Download Monthly PDF and CSV

6 min readOctober 26, 2026

Quick Answer: PayPal is not a bank, but it does issue monthly account statements and lets you download your activity. On the website, go to paypal.com/reports/accountStatements, click Request next to a month, then Download when it is ready. For a spreadsheet of transactions, open History, click the download icon, choose Custom, and pick a format: PDF, CSV, TAB, Quicken or QuickBooks.

A "PayPal bank statement" means one of two files: the monthly statement, summarizing one month of PayPal balance activity, or an activity report covering a date range you choose. PayPal's help center says activity can be downloaded for up to the past seven years, in requests of up to 12 months at a time, so most people never need another tool to get it out.

Monthly statement or activity report: which do you need?

PayPal's help article How do I view and download statements and reports? (read on 26 October 2026) describes both. They answer different questions.

You wantDownloadFormats PayPal lists
One month's official summary, for your records or someone reviewing your financesMonthly statementPDF or CSV (business accounts); the personal steps go through the Request button
Every transaction in a date range, to sort and totalActivity report from HistoryPDF, CSV, TAB, Quicken, QuickBooks

If a tax preparer or bookkeeper is asking, they almost always want the activity report as CSV, because it has one row per transaction. A landlord or loan officer who asked for "statements" wants the monthly PDF.

How do you download a PayPal monthly statement?

Personal account, on the web

  1. Sign in and go to paypal.com/reports/accountStatements.
  2. Click Request next to the month you want.
  3. When PayPal finishes building it, click Download.

Business account, on the web

  1. Go to Activity and click All Reports.
  2. Click Payments, then Statements โ€“ monthly and custom. In Classic View the help article says to click Monthly or Custom under Statements instead.
  3. Click Request under the month you want, choosing PDF or CSV.
  4. Click Download once it is ready.

PayPal says a business account's monthly statement is available any time after the second of the following month, and that you can also build a custom statement for any date range inside the past three years. There is also a scheduled report, generated monthly by the 6th, that appears in the reports table marked Scheduled; reports you ask for yourself appear as On-demand and switch from In Progress to Download when finished.

How do you download your PayPal activity as CSV or PDF?

For the full transaction list, the help article gives these steps:

  1. Go to History.
  2. Click the Download icon.
  3. Click Custom.
  4. Select the report that suits you and follow the prompts to generate it.
  5. When the report is ready, click Download.

Some practical details from the same page:

  • Seven years, twelve months at a time. For a longer stretch, request one year, then the next, and stack the files.
  • Big reports are not instant. Large history logs can take up to 5 business days to build depending on load. PayPal emails you when the file is ready and keeps your three most recently completed large logs. Small logs download right away and are not saved, so keep your own copy.
  • CSV versus TAB. Comma-delimited files open as Excel spreadsheets; tab-delimited files arrive as .txt documents.
  • Quicken and QuickBooks options exist on the format list. If you keep books in QuickBooks, our guide to getting PayPal transactions into QuickBooks compares that download with QuickBooks' own PayPal connection.

PayPal's article also walks through filtering the CSV in Excel with Data > Filter and adding up fee columns with AutoSum, which is a quick way to find out how much you paid in PayPal fees for the year.

How do you get a PayPal Credit statement?

PayPal Credit is billed separately from your PayPal balance. According to the help article:

  1. Click the PayPal Credit card tile on your home page.
  2. Click Statements.
  3. Select the month from the list.
  4. Click Get billing statement. The PDF downloads.

If you also hold a PayPal-branded Mastercard, that card's statement is covered in our PayPal Mastercard statement article.

Can a PayPal statement be used as proof of address?

Sometimes, but do not assume it. Whether a PayPal statement counts depends entirely on whoever is checking: an employer, a landlord, a government office or a bank each publishes its own list of acceptable documents. A few things to consider before you send one:

  • PayPal is a payment service, not a bank. Lists that say "bank statement" may or may not include it; ask.
  • Reviewers usually want a document dated within the last few months that shows your name and address together. Open the monthly PDF and check what it actually prints before relying on it.
  • When a PayPal statement is rejected, the statement from the bank account linked to PayPal is the usual fallback, since it comes from a regulated bank.

How does PayPal appear on your bank statement?

The other side of the question is the line PayPal leaves on your checking account or card statement when you pay with a linked bank or card, or transfer money out. These lines tend to be short, start with PayPal's name, and may include a truncated merchant name, which is why people sometimes fail to recognize them. Our guide to an unknown PayPal charge on a bank statement explains how to trace one back to a transaction in your PayPal history.

To match the two records side by side, you need the bank's statement as rows too. Download its PDF from your bank and run it through QuickBankConvert, which reads the PDF into CSV or Excel. Only the file is uploaded, never your bank or PayPal credentials, and it is processed on our servers. Then join the bank's PayPal lines to PayPal's activity CSV by date and amount.

When would you convert a PayPal statement yourself?

Rarely, because PayPal already gives you CSV. The cases where conversion helps:

  • You only kept the PDFs. Someone saved monthly PDF statements years ago and the account is now closed, so the activity download is no longer an option. Our walkthrough on converting a PayPal statement to CSV covers that path.
  • You were sent a PDF by someone else, such as a client handing over their records, and you have no access to their account.
  • You need a QuickBooks or Xero import file from a PDF. Paid plans add QBO, QFX, QIF and Xero CSV downloads; see pricing.

In every other case, request the CSV from PayPal directly. It comes straight from PayPal's records, and you avoid a conversion step altogether. If the account is still open but you only need a couple of old months, requesting them again from the statements page is also quicker than hunting for saved PDFs on an old laptop.
