Download Chase Transactions to QuickBooks: 3 Ways
Quick Answer: The easiest way is QuickBooks' own bank connection: in QuickBooks Online go to Bank transactions > Connect account, find Chase, sign in, pick the accounts and a start date. If you would rather move files, download a QuickBooks Web Connect (.QBO) file from Chase online banking and upload or import it. For months older than either can reach, convert the Chase statement PDFs.
There are three working routes from Chase to QuickBooks, and most businesses end up using two of them. The live bank connection handles everything from now on. A downloaded QBO file fills a gap of a few months. Converting statement PDFs is the fallback when you are catching up a year or more, because both of the first two routes stop at a fixed history limit.

Which Chase-to-QuickBooks route fits your situation?
| Route | Best for | How far back | Effort |
|---|---|---|---|
| QuickBooks bank connection (bank feed) | Ongoing bookkeeping | Chosen at setup; Intuit says banks offer 90 days up to 24 months | Set up once |
| QBO (Web Connect) file from Chase | Filling a missed period, or Desktop users who prefer files | Whatever Chase's download screen allows | One download per account per period |
| Converted statement PDFs | Prior years, closed accounts, cleanup projects | As far back as you have statements | One conversion per statement |
If you only need a spreadsheet and not QuickBooks, the CSV route is simpler; our guide to downloading Chase transactions as CSV covers it.
How do you connect Chase to QuickBooks Online?
This is the route Intuit recommends for current activity. Intuit's help article on connecting bank and credit card accounts gives the steps:
- Go to All apps > Accounting > Bank transactions.
- Select Connect account if this is your first connected account, or Link account if you already have one.
- Search for Chase and select it, then Continue.
- Sign in with your Chase online banking credentials and complete Chase's security steps.
- Select the Chase accounts you want to connect, checking and credit cards alike.
- Choose the start date for the first download. The default is the beginning of the year; open the dropdown to pick a different date.
- Select Connect, then Done.
A few details from the same article that matter for Chase users:
- History depends on the bank. Intuit says download availability ranges from 90 days up to 24 months, depending on the institution. Pick the earliest date offered if you are setting up a new company file.
- One Chase account, several company files. Intuit specifically notes that Chase customers can connect a single bank account to more than one QuickBooks Online company, which helps if, say, an accountant keeps a separate file for a related entity.
- Accountants cannot connect it for a client. The account owner has to sign in to Chase during setup.
- Plan limits. Intuit says the feature is restricted on its Free and Lite plans.
After the connection runs, new Chase transactions appear in the For review tab of Bank transactions. Categorize or match each one; nothing posts to your books until you do. For help when the connection stalls, see QuickBooks not downloading bank transactions.
How do you set up the Chase bank feed in QuickBooks Desktop?
QuickBooks Desktop has two kinds of bank feed. Intuit's article on downloading bank feed transactions in Desktop describes both:
- Direct Connect links the account so QuickBooks fetches transactions itself. Intuit says the first connection downloads as many past transactions as the bank allows, which for most banks is about 90 days and for some up to a year.
- Web Connect means you download a .qbo file from the bank's site and import it. Only .qbo works; a Quicken .qfx file does not.
To download once the account is set up for bank feeds:
- Back up the company file. Intuit lists this as a prerequisite.
- Go to Banking > Bank Feeds > Bank Feeds Center.
- Select the Chase account.
- Choose Download Transactions, or use the synchronize button.
- Enter your banking credentials if prompted, then review and add the downloaded items.
Intuit also warns that you cannot download the same transactions into the same company file a second time without the bank resetting them on its side. Be sure of the company file before you click.
How do you download transactions from Chase to QuickBooks as a file?
Chase offers QuickBooks-format downloads from its website. The most clearly documented place is Chase Spending Planner: Chase's Spending Planner page says that on a desktop computer you can download transactions as a spreadsheet (CSV), Quicken Web Connect (QFX), QIF, or QuickBooks Web Connect (QBO) for the last two years. On the mobile app the same tool gives PDFs for the last calendar year only.
The general sequence:
- Sign in at chase.com on a computer.
- Open the account, or Spending Planner's Spending Summary tab.
- Choose the download option for transactions.
- Pick QuickBooks Web Connect (QBO) as the format and set the date range, starting the day after the last Chase transaction already in QuickBooks.
- Save the file.
Then bring it into QuickBooks:
- QuickBooks Online: All apps > Accounting > Bank transactions, open the Link account dropdown, choose Upload from file, select the .qbo, pick the QuickBooks account, and review. Intuit's upload article caps each file at 350 KB and 1,000 transactions, so split a busy year into quarters.
- QuickBooks Desktop: Banking > Bank Feeds > Import Web Connect Files, then choose the file. The Bank of America QBO guide walks through the Desktop import screens and the common "can't read the file" errors; they apply to a Chase file just the same.
Should you mix the file route with a live connection on the same account? Avoid it. If you upload a QBO file and the bank feed later pulls the same dates, you get duplicates to clean up. Choose a cut-over date: files before it, bank feed after it.
What about Chase transactions older than the download window?
Neither the bank connection nor the two-year Spending Planner download will hand you, say, 2023's activity in 2026. Common reasons you need it anyway: a business moving its books into QuickBooks for the first time, a catch-up year for taxes, or a credit card account that was never connected.
The monthly statements still hold the data. Download each PDF from Chase's statements area, then turn it into a QuickBooks file. Our Chase statement page covers converting Chase checking and card statement layouts, including the multi-section checking statements, so the steps are not repeated here.
What changes when you go the PDF route:
- Format choice. QuickBooks Online accepts CSV (three or four columns) and QBO. QBO is the smoother import because there is no column mapping. With QuickBankConvert, QBO and the other accounting formats start on the Plus plan; CSV and Excel downloads are available on a free account.
- Check before importing. Run the converted file through the QBO file checker, then confirm each month's rows bring the statement's opening balance to its closing balance.
- Stop at the cut-over date. Convert statements only up to the day before your bank feed's first downloaded transaction.
For other ways to backfill a QuickBooks Online file, including spreadsheet imports, see importing old transactions into QuickBooks Online.
Common problems
- "No transactions found" after connecting. The start date may be later than you think. Edit the connection or upload a file for the gap.
- The QBO upload is refused. Check the size against Intuit's 350 KB limit and that the file really ends in .qbo, not a renamed .qfx.
- Chase card payments show twice. The payment leaves checking and arrives on the card. Record it as a transfer between the two accounts, not as an expense and income.
- Duplicates after switching routes. Delete the overlapping rows in For review, or exclude them, before accepting anything.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it free to download Chase transactions to QuickBooks?
Connecting Chase inside QuickBooks Online and downloading a QBO file from chase.com do not require extra software, though QuickBooks' own Free and Lite plans restrict bank connections.
How far back will QuickBooks pull Chase transactions?
You choose the start date when you connect. Intuit says banks provide anywhere from 90 days to 24 months, and the dropdown only offers what Chase makes available.
Can I connect one Chase account to two QuickBooks companies?
Yes. Intuit's help notes that Chase customers can connect a single bank account to multiple QuickBooks Online companies.
Which Chase download format should I use for QuickBooks Desktop?
QuickBooks Web Connect (.QBO). Desktop's Web Connect import does not read QFX, QIF or CSV files.
What if my Chase account is no longer open?
A closed account cannot be connected, so work from the statements you saved or request copies from Chase, then convert them to QBO or CSV.
