NAB Bank Statement: Download, Order and Export Guide

6 min readOctober 26, 2026

Quick Answer: In the NAB app, tap the account, tap Statements, choose the statement date, tap Ok on the security message, then Share to download it. In NAB Internet Banking, choose Accounts then Account statements, pick the account and date range, select Search, tick up to 25 statements and select Download. Internet Banking holds seven years of statements; the app holds two.

NAB statements download as PDFs from the NAB app (two years of history) or NAB Internet Banking (seven years), and most accounts get a statement every six months unless you change the cycle. NAB also produces proof of balance and interest statements on demand, lets you order a statement dated today, and exports up to two years of transactions as a spreadsheet, QIF or PDF.

Why can't I find older statements in the NAB app?

Because the app only goes back two years. NAB's help guide Access online account statements and letters (read on 26 October 2026) says you can access up to seven years of statements in NAB Internet Banking and up to two in the app. For anything from three to seven years ago, use a web browser.

NAB app

  1. Log in and tap the account.
  2. Tap Statements; they're listed in order of closing date.
  3. Tap the date you need, then Ok on the security message.
  4. Tap Share to download or send it.

NAB Internet Banking

  1. Log in with your 8 to 10-digit NAB ID and password.
  2. Select Accounts, then Account statements.
  3. Choose the account from the dropdown.
  4. Pick a period from Date range or enter a custom range, then Search.
  5. Select up to 25 statements and Download. They save to your downloads folder.

That 25-at-once limit is generous; a seven-year history on a six-monthly cycle is only 14 statements.

How often does NAB issue statements?

NAB says most accounts receive a statement every six months unless you've asked for something different. If you want monthly statements, for example because a lender wants consecutive months, call NAB from the app and ask to change your statement cycle. Do it well ahead of an application: a six-monthly cycle means your last statement could be five months old.

For the gap between your last statement and today, NAB has two tools, covered next.

Getting a statement dated today

NAB's guide says that if you need a statement with today's date, you can order a current account statement in Internet Banking. Timing depends on when you order: before 8:00pm AEST/AEDT, it's available the next business day; after 8:00pm, the business day after that.

If you need something immediately, the recent transactions download is quicker, but NAB is clear that it isn't a statement, just a report of recent activity, useful for things like proof of a purchase. In the app: account โ†’ Statements โ†’ Download your recent transactions โ†’ choose a date range โ†’ Generate your PDF. In Internet Banking: select the account, set the date range, Update transactions, then Export and pick a file type.

The other NAB statements you might be asked for

NAB produces more document types than most banks, and each answers a different request:

DocumentWhat it showsWhere to get itTypical use
Account statementAll processed transactions for a periodApp or Internet Banking, Account statementsLoan applications, tax records
Proof of balanceYour current balanceApp: More / Menu โ†’ Reports โ†’ Proof of balance โ†’ Create report; Internet Banking: the three dots at the top right of your accounts listHome loan applications, Centrelink
Interest statementInterest earned for a financial yearApp: Reports โ†’ Interest statement; Internet Banking: Accounts โ†’ interest statementsTax return
Recent transactionsA report of recent activity, not a statementApp or Internet BankingProof of a single purchase
Online lettersCorrespondence about your accountsApp: Reports โ†’ Letters; Internet Banking: Profile & Settings โ†’ LettersRate changes, notices

The interest statement in Internet Banking lets you choose Create CSV report or create PDF report, and lists accounts with their interest and tax details. For a tax return with several savings accounts, the CSV saves retyping.

What about NAB home loan statements?

People search for a "NAB home loan statement" when refinancing or claiming interest on an investment property. NAB's statements guide treats a home loan like your other accounts: if it appears in your account list, its statements sit under Statements in the app and Account statements in Internet Banking, with the same two-year and seven-year limits. NAB's guide doesn't give separate download steps for loans, so if a loan is missing from your list, call NAB from the app. For a refinance, the outgoing lender's discharge process has its own checklist on NAB's home loan help pages.

NAB business statements

NAB's business statements guide (read on 26 October 2026) follows the same pattern: seven years in Internet Banking, two in the app, plus proof of balance and interest statements. Two business-specific rules:

  • You must log in with your Business NAB ID, not your personal one, to change statement settings, including turning off paper statements.
  • Statement preferences can be changed by the account owner and, in most cases, by people running the business day to day, such as a director, CEO, general manager, partner or trustee.

Larger businesses on NAB Connect have a separate help section covering statements, tax invoices and downloading multiple statements.

Can you export NAB transactions to Excel or QIF?

Yes. NAB's transaction history page (read on 26 October 2026) says you can view up to two years (731 days) of transactions. To export:

  1. Log in to NAB Internet Banking and open Accounts, then Transaction history.
  2. Sort by clicking column headings (click Date once for oldest first, twice for newest first).
  3. Use Filters to set the account and date range, or the search box.
  4. Select Export to export all or some transactions as a spreadsheet, a QIF file or a PDF.

QIF suits older personal finance software; the spreadsheet option is the one for Excel, Google Sheets or an accountant. NAB's page also explains transaction descriptions, such as FEES DIR CHG OTH ATM for a fee charged by a non-NAB ATM owner.

How do you get statements for a closed NAB account?

In Internet Banking, select Accounts, then Account statements, then Closed or Hidden Accounts. NAB says you'll see up to seven years of statements from the day of the search, but only if you had opted into online statements before the account closed. If you stayed on paper, the online archive won't have them, and you'll need to ask NAB for copies. Our guide on closed bank account statements covers that request.

Converting NAB PDF statements

Use the transaction export for anything in the last two years. Past that, statements are PDFs. QuickBankConvert converts statement PDFs into rows with date, description, category, signed amount and balance, and it handles Australian statements as well as others, though we haven't specifically tested NAB's layout, so check the closing balance. A free account downloads CSV and Excel; see pricing for more. PDF to Excel shows the output, and our multi-currency guide helps with foreign-currency accounts.
