Westpac Bank Statement: eStatements, Exports and More

6 min readOctober 26, 2026

Quick Answer: In the Westpac App, type Statements into the Smart Search bar, tap Statements (incl. closed accounts), choose the account and statement period, then use the share icon to download it. In Online Banking, go to Overview then Statements, pick the account, set a date range, Search and Download PDF. Up to 7 years are online. For spreadsheet or accounting files, Exports and reports produces CSV, QBO, QIF or OFX.

Westpac keeps up to seven years of eStatements in its app and Online Banking, including statements for many closed accounts. PDFs suit lenders and accountants; for data, Online Banking's Exports and reports page exports transactions as CSV, QBO, QIF or OFX with a date format you choose. Business accounts lose eStatement access once closed, so download those first.

How do you find a Westpac statement in the app?

The Westpac App is built around its Smart Search bar rather than a fixed menu, so the quickest route is to search. Westpac's FAQ How do I view old statements? (read on 26 October 2026) lists these steps:

  1. Update the Westpac App to the latest version.
  2. Type Statements into the Smart Search bar.
  3. Tap Statements (incl. closed accounts).
  4. Select the account under Active accounts.
  5. Tap the statement period you want.
  6. Tap the share icon to download the PDF or send a copy.

The share icon is what people miss. There's no separate "download" button; the share sheet is where you save the file to your phone, email it to a broker or send it to cloud storage.

And in Online Banking on a computer

From the same FAQ:

  1. Go to Overview, then Statements.
  2. Select an account under Active accounts.
  3. Enter a date range or pick a preset range, then select Search.
  4. Select Download PDF.

The date range search makes Online Banking the better tool when you need a run of statements, such as the last six months for a home loan application, because you can see them all listed at once.

Switching to eStatements, and when you can't

Westpac's eStatements page (read on 26 October 2026) says eStatements hold the same information as paper statements, that you can view up to 7 years of history, and that Westpac emails you when a new statement is ready.

To switch:

  • App: search eStatements in Smart Search, tap Switch to eStatements, select the account, then tap eStatement and Update.
  • Online Banking: select Service on the menu bar, then Statement settings under Your preferences, choose the account, select eStatements and Save.

You need to be registered for Online Banking and have a valid email address in your contact details. Eligible accounts include savings and transaction accounts, mortgages and credit cards on your personal profile. Joint account holders can each choose their own setting without affecting the other.

One exception catches home loan customers: Westpac says some accounts keep receiving paper statements because their statement preferences are tied to a mortgage in an offset arrangement. If your everyday account won't switch, that's the likely reason.

Can you download Westpac transactions as CSV, QBO, QIF or OFX?

Yes. Westpac is one of the banks that documents a full set of export formats. Its FAQ on exporting a detailed transaction history (read on 26 October 2026) gives these steps:

Online Banking

  1. Go to Overview and select Exports and reports.
  2. In the Transactions section, select Export CSV, QBO, QIF, OFX file.
  3. Choose a date range, select the accounts, and pick a file format and a date format.
  4. Select Export and save the file.

Westpac App: type Recent transactions into Smart Search, tap Download recent transactions, choose an account and transaction period, then tap Download.

Which format should you pick?

FormatUse it for
CSVExcel, Google Sheets, or software that maps columns on import
QBOQuickBooks' Web Connect import
QIFOlder personal finance software such as Quicken's legacy versions
OFXMany accounting and budgeting tools that read Open Financial Exchange

The date format option matters more than it looks. Australian dates are day first; a spreadsheet set to US conventions will swap day and month for any date where both are 12 or below. Pick the format your software expects before exporting rather than fixing it afterwards.

Westpac also notes, for business customers, that Osko and PayID payments can carry up to 280 characters of description, visible in the app and Online Banking, but that the text may be shortened in statements and exports. If you reconcile on payment references, check the full description on screen when an exported line looks cut off.

And if what you really want is a continuous feed into accounting software rather than files, Westpac points to bank feeds as the alternative.

How do you get statements for a closed Westpac account?

Westpac's FAQ on eStatements for closed accounts (read on 26 October 2026) uses the same screens with one extra tap: in the app, search Statements (inc. closed accounts), tap Statements (incl. closed accounts), then Closed accounts; in Online Banking, Overview โ†’ Statements โ†’ Closed accounts.

What you can see depends on the product:

  • Personal credit cards (and eligible business cards such as Altitude Business and Business Choice on a personal profile): up to 7 years, primary cardholder only. Cards replaced after fraud, loss or theft count as closed accounts here.
  • Savings and transaction accounts: up to 7 years, single account holders only; Westpac says joint accounts aren't currently covered.
  • Home loans: up to 7 years, for single and joint holders.
  • Worldwide Wallet: the last 13 months in Online Banking; older statements by calling Westpac.
  • Business network accounts: eStatements are not available after closure at all.

That last point is the one to act on. If you're closing a business account, download every statement your accountant might need before the closure goes through. Our guide on closed bank account statements covers what to do when it's already too late.

Statements older than seven years

Westpac's online history stops at seven years. For anything earlier, contact Westpac through the app or by phone and ask for a copy; the help pages we read don't describe a self-service route for older periods. Expect a paper or emailed copy rather than an instant download, and ask about any fee before confirming. Our guide to getting old bank statements explains how to word the request so you get the right period first time.

Converting a Westpac PDF

With CSV, QBO, QIF and OFX exports available, most Westpac users won't need a converter. The cases where you will: statements older than the export date range you can reach, a closed account where only PDFs remain, or PDFs a client or tenant has sent you. QuickBankConvert turns statement PDFs into rows with date, description, category and signed amount, and it isn't limited by country, though we haven't specifically tested Westpac's layout, so reconcile the closing balance. CSV and Excel come with a free account; QBO, QFX and QIF need a paid plan, listed on pricing. For statements in more than one currency, see our guide to multi-currency statements.
