How do you download a CommBank statement?
CommBank's support page How to check online statements (read on 26 October 2026) gives the two main routes.
In the CommBank app
- Log on and tap Accounts.
- Choose the account.
- Tap Manage.
- Tap View statement. You may be asked for your CommBank app PIN.
- Choose the statement date.
- Tap Download.
In NetBank
- Log on to NetBank.
- Choose View accounts, then Statements.
- Select the account. Your latest statements are listed.
- Tick one statement, or several, and click Download.
The multi-select in NetBank is the reason to use a computer when a lender wants six or twelve months: you can grab them in one go instead of downloading each month on your phone.
CommBank notes one product exception: for Viridian Line of Credit joint accounts, only the current statement can be viewed in NetBank.
How long does CommBank keep statements?
CommBank says online statements are kept for up to 7 years and can be checked in NetBank, the app or at a CommBank ATM, where the ATM option gives you a Mini statement for the account you choose.
For closed accounts, the rule is specific: for up to 2 years after you close an account, you can still reach statements issued up to 7 years ago. After those two years, online access ends. CommBank's credit card help gives the NetBank route for an old account as View accounts โ Statements โ View closed accounts, then the old account number, with your nearest branch as the alternative. If you're closing an account and might ever need its history for a tax review or a mortgage, download the statements within that two-year window. Our guide on closed bank account statements covers the options once the window has passed.
Can you get a CommBank statement before it's due?
Yes. Lenders often want activity up to "today", not just to your last statement date. CommBank's support page Can I get a statement before it is due? (read on 26 October 2026) offers two ways:
| Option | NetBank path | What you get | Speed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Order a statement | View accounts โ Statements โ Order a statement | A statement for the period between your last statement and today | Online within two business days; by mail if you've chosen paper statements |
| Create a summary | View accounts โ Statements โ Create summary | An official letter confirming your transactions and account details for a period you choose | Instant |
The transaction summary is the quicker fix for a rental application or proof of funds. Whether a particular lender accepts a summary in place of a statement is up to them, so ask before relying on it.
Which CommBank document fits which request?
CommBank gives you four different records, and picking the wrong one is the usual reason an application bounces back:
- Home loan or car finance application: the regular monthly or quarterly PDF statements, plus an ordered interim statement if the lender wants activity up to the current date.
- Rental application or proof of funds: a transaction summary letter for the dates the agent names is quick, as long as they accept it.
- Bookkeeping or a tax return: the NetBank export as CSV, because it comes as data with signed amounts.
- A quick balance check at the shops: the ATM mini statement. Nobody will accept it as evidence, but it's instant.
Is there a formal process for statements older than seven years?
People do search for this, often for an old tax matter or a deceased relative's estate. CommBank's online statement pages describe a 7-year online window and don't set out a self-service route beyond it. For anything older, contact CommBank through the app's messaging or visit a branch and ask what they can retrieve for that period, and whether a fee applies. Be specific about the account number and exact months. Our guide on how to get old bank statements explains what to include in the request.
Credit card statements
A CommBank credit card is an account like any other in the app and NetBank, so the same View statement and Statements routes apply. Statements for a card you've closed or replaced sit under View closed accounts in NetBank, subject to the same two-year access window after closure. If you're converting card statements for an expense claim or a tax return, keep in mind that a card statement's sign convention runs the opposite way to a transaction account's: purchases increase what you owe.
How do you export CommBank transactions to a spreadsheet?
This is where CommBank does more than most banks. Its support page on exporting transaction information (read on 26 October 2026) says each export contains:
- the date of the transaction
- the amount, with debits shown as negative numbers
- the transaction details
- the account balance at the time of the transaction
There are two ways to run it in NetBank:
- One page of transactions: choose the account, hit Export, choose the format and hit Export transactions.
- A specific period: choose the account, hit Export, use Advanced search above the transaction list to set the dates, hit Export again, choose the format and hit Export transactions.
You can export up to 600 transactions at a time. The formats CommBank lists are:
- Comma Separated Values (CSV) or plain text
- MYOB
- Microsoft Money
- Quicken (US versions)
- Quicken (Australian versions)
Notice what isn't there: CommBank's page doesn't list QBO or OFX. If you use QuickBooks Online or Xero, take the CSV and map its columns on import, or let the software's own bank feed handle it. The 600-transaction cap also matters for busy business accounts; for a full year, run the export in quarters or months.
When to convert the PDF instead
For any period within NetBank's transaction search, the CSV export is better than any conversion, because it comes straight from CommBank's records and already includes the running balance. Conversion makes sense when the account is closed beyond the two-year window and you're holding old PDFs, when a client has sent you statements rather than NetBank access, or when you need a QuickBooks-style file from older months.
QuickBankConvert reads statement PDFs into rows with date, description, category, signed amount and balance where the statement prints it, and it works on Australian statements as on any others, though we haven't specifically tested CommBank's layout. Check that the closing balance matches. CSV and Excel come with a free account; QBO, QFX and QIF need a paid plan, shown on pricing.
