CIBC Account Statement: eStatements, Copies and Fees

6 min readOctober 26, 2026

Quick Answer: Sign on to CIBC Online Banking or the CIBC Mobile Banking App, open My Documents (in the app, under More), choose Account statements, pick the account and select a statement date; it downloads as a PDF. CIBC keeps up to 7 years of bank account and credit card eStatements online. A paper interim statement costs $4.50 and a copy statement $5.00, and neither is offered to paperless customers.

A CIBC account statement lives under My Documents, then Account statements, in both CIBC Online Banking and the mobile app, with up to seven years of bank account and credit card eStatements. RRSP, RRIF, TFSA and other investment eStatements only start from the date you registered. If you're paperless, CIBC won't print interim or copy statements, so download what you need yourself.

How do you find a CIBC statement online?

CIBC's tutorial How to find and understand your eStatements (read on 26 October 2026) walks through three versions of the same path.

CIBC Online Banking on a computer

  1. Sign on to CIBC Online Banking.
  2. On the homepage, select My Documents.
  3. Under the Account Documents options, select Account statements.
  4. Choose the account.
  5. Pick a statement by date. A PDF downloads to your device.

Online Banking in a phone's web browser: the same, except you first tap the three-line menu icon to reach My Documents.

CIBC Mobile Banking App

  1. Sign on and, on the accounts page, select More in the menu bar.
  2. Select My documents.
  3. Select Account statements.
  4. Choose the account, then the statement date.

CIBC's eStatements are monthly. Statements are listed by date, so if you need March to August for a landlord, you'll download six files.

How far back do CIBC eStatements go?

CIBC's eStatements page (read on 26 October 2026) says you can view up to 7 years of credit card and bank account eStatements online and on your phone. The fine print matters for registered and investment accounts, though:

Account typeeStatement history CIBC describes
Chequing and savings accountsUp to 7 years
CIBC credit cardsUp to 7 years
Personal lines of creditAvailable online
RRSP, RRIF, TFSA, non-registered GICs, CIBC Personal Portfolio Services, CIBC Securities Inc. mutual fundsOnly from the date you registered for eStatements; historical statements are not available

So a TFSA statement from before you switched to eStatements won't appear online, no matter how hard you look. For those years, the paper statements you received, or a request to CIBC, are the only sources.

CIBC also notes in its service fee terms that banking activity from before you registered for Online Banking won't show in the online or mobile transaction history. If you registered recently, the transaction list may look shorter than the statement archive.

What does a CIBC statement cost on paper?

CIBC's additional service fees page (read on 26 October 2026) lists the per-item charges:

  • Interim statement: $4.50 for most accounts; US$5.00 for a CIBC US$ Personal Account; not available for the CIBC eAdvantage Savings Account.
  • Copy of a statement: $5.00 for most accounts; US$5.00 for a CIBC US$ Personal Account; not available for eAdvantage Savings.

Two conditions in CIBC's footnotes change the picture. Interim statements and statement reprints are not available for paperless customers, and customers who receive Braille or large-print statements pay the same $4.50 and $5 amounts. In practice, if you've gone paperless, downloading the eStatement is your only route, and it costs nothing.

Why did my CIBC statements become quarterly?

If an account you rarely use suddenly shows a statement every three months, it has probably been classed as dormant. CIBC's fee page says an account is dormant when you haven't initiated any transactions for 24 months, and dormant accounts that received monthly statements are switched to quarterly ones. Any deposit, withdrawal, transfer or bill payment at a CIBC branch or bank machine reactivates the account. CIBC adds that after 10 years of dormancy, a Canadian dollar balance is transferred to the Bank of Canada.

Is a CIBC eStatement good enough for tax or an application?

For tax, CIBC's how-to guide for eStatements states that electronic statements are accepted by the Canada Revenue Agency for tax purposes. For other uses, such as a rental application, a mortgage or a visa, acceptance is up to the organisation asking, but a downloaded eStatement is the same monthly statement CIBC would otherwise post.

According to that guide, each statement shows:

  1. your name
  2. the month covered
  3. your account number and branch transit number
  4. an account summary: opening balance, total withdrawals, total deposits and closing balance
  5. CIBC's contact information
  6. transaction details, split into Withdrawals and Deposits columns

That separate withdrawals-and-deposits layout matters if you're turning statements into a spreadsheet. You'll want a single signed amount column for most accounting software, so either combine the two columns or use a converter that does it. Our guide on bank statements for visa applications covers what embassies typically look for.

Going paperless has a condition attached

CIBC's eStatement terms say that if you choose paperless record-keeping, no printed statements are sent, and you must review your account transactions through online banking, mobile banking, telephone banking or a CIBC bank machine at least once every 30 days. If anything is wrong, you must notify CIBC in writing within 60 days of the date the entry was, or should have been, posted. That's a real obligation, not boilerplate: if you go paperless and stop checking, you can lose the right to dispute an error.

CIBC also says eStatements are not emailed to you; you retrieve them after signing on. Treat any email that attaches a "CIBC statement" with suspicion.

Credit card statements, including Costco Mastercard

CIBC credit cards, including the Costco Mastercard that CIBC issues, appear in the same Account statements list. CIBC's guide to reading your credit card statement (read on 26 October 2026) explains the billing cycle: a statement period runs for one month, its last day is your statement date, and your payment is due at least 21 days after that. Page 1 carries the account summary, payment due, statement period, limits and interest rates; later pages list payments, interest, any CIBC Pace It installment plans, and new charges and credits.

If you're tracking spending on a card, remember the sign convention flips compared with a bank account: purchases are charges that increase your balance, and payments are credits.

Downloading CIBC data for software

CIBC's eStatements page says you can download your statements "to use with your personal finance software", but the pages we read on 26 October 2026 don't list export file formats, so we won't name any. If your online banking shows a transaction download, try it first; data straight from CIBC beats any conversion.

When only the PDFs are available, which is common for older years or when a client sends you statements, you can extract the table with Excel's Get Data from PDF or with a converter. QuickBankConvert reads a statement PDF into rows with date, description, category, a signed amount (merging CIBC's withdrawal and deposit columns) and the balance. It works on Canadian statements as on any others, but we haven't specifically tested CIBC's layout, so check the closing balance against the PDF. Free accounts download CSV and Excel; see pricing for more, and PDF to Excel for what the output looks like.
