Standard Bank Home Loans Statement: Get and Read It
Quick Answer: To get a Standard Bank home loan statement emailed to you, SMS "Yes" to 32264. For a home loan tax certificate or any bond document you have misplaced, call home loans general enquiries on 0860 123 001 or email the home loans team. The Banking App's document feature also issues statements and certificates for the accounts you select there.
A Standard Bank home loan statement shows what you owe on your bond, the instalment you paid, how much of that instalment was interest and how much reduced the capital, plus fees and any extra payments. You can have it emailed by SMS request, ask the home loans team for older copies or certificates, and use it to plan settlement.

Where each home loan document comes from
Standard Bank spreads bond paperwork across a few channels. Its Manage your information page for home loans is the most direct source, and it is short: update personal details at a branch, call for tax certificates or misplaced documents, and SMS to switch to eStatements.

The Banking App guide called "Get your bank account documents" promises stamped bank statements, confirmation letters and tax certificates for the account you pick on the home screen. Whether your bond account offers every document type there depends on the account, so if the option you need is missing, the 0860 123 001 line is the fallback the home loan pages name.
Is the IT3(b) the same as a home loan tax certificate?
No, and mixing them up wastes a phone call. Standard Bank describes the IT3(b) as an investor tax certificate that "provides a summary of any interest and dividends that you earned during the tax year", and notes that only interest-bearing accounts have one available. It is about money the bank paid you.
A home loan certificate is about money you paid the bank: interest charged on the bond over a period. People usually ask for one when an accountant needs the bond interest for a let property or a home office claim, or when another lender wants proof of the loan. Ask the home loans team for the period you need, and say what it is for so they issue the right document. Whether any of that interest is deductible is a question for your tax practitioner, not the statement.
How do you read the interest and capital lines?
Each month the bank charges interest on the outstanding balance. Your instalment pays that interest first; whatever is left reduces the capital. That is why the two lines on a statement move in opposite directions over the life of a bond.
Here is a worked example with round, illustrative numbers. They are not Standard Bank's rates, which move with the base rate; read your own rate from your statement.
- Outstanding balance: R1,200,000
- Annual interest rate: 11%
- Remaining term: 20 years (240 months)
| Line | Calculation | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Interest for the month (approximate) | 1,200,000 ร 11% รท 12 | R11,000 |
| Instalment on a 240-month schedule | Standard annuity formula | R12,386 |
| Capital repaid this month | 12,386 โ 11,000 | R1,386 |
| New balance | 1,200,000 โ 1,386 | R1,198,614 |
In a spreadsheet you can reproduce the instalment with =PMT(11%/12, 240, -1200000) and split each month with =IPMT(11%/12, 1, 240, -1200000) for interest and =PPMT(11%/12, 1, 240, -1200000) for capital. Change the period number to see how the split shifts; by the final years almost the whole instalment is capital. Your actual statement may differ slightly because many banks calculate interest on the daily balance and add monthly fees and insurance premiums.
If the capital figure on your statement looks too small, check three things: whether the instalment was adjusted after a rate change, whether fees or premiums were debited to the bond, and whether a payment arrived late and attracted extra interest.
Paying more, and what the statement then shows
Standard Bank's "Paying your bond" page sets out the options. Debit orders are the bank's recommended method, and they adjust automatically when the base rate changes. You can ask for a fixed rate for 24 to 36 months by calling 0860 123 001, or SMS "Fixed Rate" to 32663 for a call back. Extra monthly amounts and lump sums reduce interest and shorten the loan; to increase your repayment, call the same number.
If your bond has an AccessBond facility, extra money you pay in stays available to draw. Standard Bank says you choose whether additional payments shorten the bond or reduce instalments, transfers are in multiples of R1 000 through ATMs or online banking, and the facility is deactivated if you miss a payment. The bank lists bond types that cannot have one, such as vacant land and building loans.
When you track extra payments, the statement balance is the number to watch. Pulling the monthly statements into one spreadsheet makes it easy to chart the balance falling and confirm each lump sum landed. If your statements arrive as PDFs, QuickBankConvert can turn each one into rows with dates, descriptions, amounts and balances in CSV or Excel; see our Standard Bank statement to Excel guide for how that works on Standard Bank's layouts.
Settling or cancelling your home loan
Standard Bank's settling your home loan page lists four steps, and the first one has a long lead time:
- Give notice. The bank needs 90 days' notice to cancel your home loan, whether you are selling or making the final payment.
- Pay off the loan. After the loan is settled, an attorney instructs Standard Bank to cancel it and return the property's title deed.
- Cancel the home loan. Cancelling stops further home loan fees, interest on unpaid fees and any home insurance you hold through the bank.
- Stay insured. If your building insurance is with Standard Bank, cancelling the loan cancels that cover, so arrange replacement insurance first.
Before you pay the final amount, ask the home loans team for the figure needed to settle on your chosen date. The balance on your last monthly statement is not that number: interest keeps accruing daily, and fees may still be due.
Getting the transactions out of a statement
The home loan statement is mostly a summary, but the transaction section matters when you are proving payments, preparing for an audit of a rental property, or reconciling a joint bond. Our Standard Bank Excel and CSV export guide covers the CSV options Standard Bank offers for transactional accounts; for bond statements that arrive only as PDF, a converter or careful copy-and-paste is the practical route. The PDF to Excel page shows QuickBankConvert's output columns. Free accounts can download CSV and Excel; heavier use is on the pricing page.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get my Standard Bank home loan statement by email?
Standard Bank's home loan page says to SMS "Yes" to 32264 to have home loan statements sent to your email address. Standard network rates apply to the SMS.
Where do I get a Standard Bank home loan tax certificate?
Standard Bank asks you to call home loans general enquiries on 0860 123 001 for tax certificates or misplaced home loan documents. The IT3(b) in the app is a different certificate: it summarises interest and dividends you earned on interest-bearing accounts.
How much notice does Standard Bank need to cancel a bond?
Standard Bank's settling page says it needs 90 days' notice to cancel your home loan. Once the loan is paid, an attorney instructs the bank to cancel it and return the title deed.
Why does my bond balance drop so slowly at first?
Early in a bond most of each instalment covers that month's interest, so only a small slice reduces capital. The capital share grows every month as the balance falls.
Can I see extra payments on my home loan statement?
Extra payments lower the outstanding balance, so they show up as a faster fall in capital. If you have an AccessBond facility, those extra funds can be drawn again in multiples of R1 000.
