Nationwide Bank Statement: 36 Months Online and Older Copies

6 min readOctober 26, 2026

Quick Answer: To download a Nationwide statement, log in to the internet bank, choose the Documents tab, then Statements, and pick the account under View by account; in the app, look in My Documents. Both give you up to 36 months of current account, savings and credit card statements as PDFs. Anything older, or a posted copy, comes through Nationwide's web chat, its phone line or a branch.

Nationwide Building Society keeps 36 months of PDF statements online, in the app and the internet bank, while its on-screen transaction list goes back only 15 months. For a full period, download the monthly PDFs one at a time. Posted copies take about 10 working days, and closed current accounts have a separate five-year statement archive you must register for within six months.

How do you download a Nationwide statement online?

Nationwide's help page on viewing your balance or getting a statement online (read on 26 October 2026) describes two routes.

In the internet bank:

  1. Log in to the internet bank.
  2. Choose the Documents tab.
  3. Choose Statements.
  4. Under View by account, select the account you want.
  5. Download the statement you need as a PDF.

In the app: log in and open My Documents. Nationwide says you can view and download current account, savings and credit card statements from the last 36 months there, alongside letters about your accounts.

One limitation catches people out. Nationwide's help page notes that if you need more than one statement, you repeat the steps for each one. There is no single "download a year" button, so a mortgage application asking for six months of statements means six downloads.

If you just log in and pick your current account from the list, Nationwide shows you the full current statement on screen automatically. That's handy for a quick check but it isn't the archived PDF a lender wants.

Why do you only see 15 months of transactions?

Nationwide's current account statements guide (read on 26 October 2026) puts two different limits side by side: in the internet bank you can view transactions for the past 15 months, and you can view and download 36 months' worth of PDF statements.

So if you scroll back through your transactions and they stop after a year and a bit, the history hasn't been lost; it has simply moved to the statement archive. For months 16 to 36, use Documents โ†’ Statements. Beyond 36 months, you'll need to request copies (see below).

The internet bank also lets you search and filter your transaction data, which is the quickest way to find one payment without opening a pile of PDFs.

What each Nationwide product's statement looks like

Nationwide is a building society, so many members hold a current account, a savings account and a mortgage under one login. The statements differ more than you might expect.

ProductWhere to find it onlineWhat's on it
Current accountDocuments โ†’ Statements, or My Documents in the appBalance, transactions, arranged overdraft, sort code and account number, IBAN, BIC and SWIFT, and a Notice of Charges if overdraft fees applied
Card-based savingsSame route as the current accountAs above, without the overdraft lines
Non card-based savings and eBondsView accounts tab, then the savings accountBalance up to close of business on the previous working day, transactions, IBAN, BIC and SWIFT
MortgageView accounts tab, select the mortgage, pick a statement date, then ViewOpening and outstanding balance, payments received, interest charged, interest rate history, agreed redemption date, overpayments
Credit cardView accounts tab, then the card; Statement summary / statement archive for older onesPrevious summaries for up to 15 months; a Download transactions option lets you choose a format

Two details from Nationwide's pages are worth knowing. If an account had a zero balance and no transactions in the previous month, Nationwide doesn't produce a statement for that month, so a "missing" month may simply be a quiet one. And on a credit card statement, an old card number can appear alongside your current one after a replacement; Nationwide says those old details are for information and drop off future statements.

For the annual mortgage statement specifically, Nationwide has a separate page under its existing mortgage members section.

Does Nationwide still post paper statements?

Yes, for most accounts. Nationwide says that unless you've gone paperless or hold a FlexDirect current account, it posts your statement every month. If you've gone paperless, it emails you when a new online statement is ready.

To get a copy statement in the post, Nationwide gives three options, with delivery in 10 working days:

  • In the internet bank, select Need help? Send us a message from the left-hand menu, choose Chat with us, and type "Get a statement" into the web chat. You'll be handed to a member of staff.
  • Call 03457 30 20 11.
  • Visit a branch.

This is also the route for statements older than the 36 months available online.

Mini statements: useful, but not a statement

Nationwide offers two quick snapshots. A cash machine mini statement shows your balance and your last 10 transactions. Telephone banking will send you a mini statement with your balance and last 6 transactions. Neither is something a lender or letting agent will accept as a bank statement, but both answer "did that payment go out?" without logging in.

How do you get statements for a closed Nationwide account?

Nationwide's help page on accessing statements for a closed current account (read on 26 October 2026) describes a separate service created after the Competition and Markets Authority required banks to make closed-account statements easy to get. It applies to current accounts closed on or after 2 February 2018.

How it works:

  1. Within 10 working days of closing, your historical statements covering the final 5 years of the account become available online.
  2. You must register for that access within 6 months of closure. Miss the window and only paper copies are available.
  3. To register you need your date of birth, the account number, the sort code and your Nationwide customer number. If the account number is longer than 8 digits, enter only the last 8.
  4. Once registered, you can view, download and print the statements. Joint account holders see only the period they were on the account.

If you still have other Nationwide accounts and remain registered for online banking, the internet bank and app keep showing up to 3 years of statements from before the closure date.

Paper copies for a closed account are posted within 7 days of a request made in branch or by phone. Nationwide warns that a long request can arrive as a large bundle and asks you to check its Tariff of Charges for any cost. Requests linked to a Power of Attorney or Court of Protection go through a branch or the phone line, and statements for someone who has died go through its Bereavement Specialist Support Team. Our guide on closed bank account statements covers the same situation at other UK banks.

Getting Nationwide statements into a spreadsheet

Nationwide's statement archive gives you PDFs, which are what lenders want but not what a spreadsheet can use. For the credit card, the Download transactions option on the statement archive is the first thing to try, because it comes from Nationwide's own data. For current account history, the 15-month transaction list can be searched and filtered on screen.

When you need older months as rows, or you're working from a closed-account archive, convert the PDFs. Excel's Get Data from PDF handles simple layouts. QuickBankConvert reads bank statement PDFs into one row per transaction with date, description, category, a signed amount and the running balance, and it works on statements from UK institutions as well as anywhere else, though we haven't specifically tested Nationwide's layout. Compare the closing balance on the PDF with the last row before relying on the file. Free accounts can download CSV and Excel; pricing lists bigger allowances. See PDF to Excel for what the output looks like.
