NatWest Bank Statement: Download, Export and Decode It
Quick Answer: Log in to NatWest Online Banking, select Statements & transactions from the main menu, pick the account and year, then click the statement cycle you want; it downloads as a PDF. Seven years are available. In the app, open the account, tap the three-dot icon, choose statements, then the export button. For a spreadsheet, NatWest's transaction search exports to formats including Excel.
NatWest gives you seven years of statement PDFs in Online Banking for current accounts, savings and credit cards, plus a transaction search that exports to Excel or PDF. The app lists statements under the account's three-dot menu. Paper copies are arranged through Cora, NatWest's chat assistant, and closed-account history can be requested for up to five years after closing.

Downloading a statement in Online Banking
NatWest's support centre answer How do I download a PDF statement or other mail? (read on 26 October 2026) sets out the steps:
- Log in to Online Banking.
- Select Statements & transactions from the menu bar.
- Select the account you want the statement for.
- NatWest shows the statements for that account in the current year. Change the year with the dropdown.
- Click the statement you want; it downloads as a PDF according to your browser settings.
- Save or print it.
NatWest says a PDF statement appears in Online Banking as soon as it has been issued, and that you'll get an email when your latest one is ready. It also says the redesigned statement can be used as proof of identity, address or income, which settles a common question from people renting or applying for credit.
The same menu holds Mailbox, where NatWest keeps up to two years of personal account letters as PDFs. That's a separate archive from statements: letters about interest rate changes or overdraft terms live there, not in Statements.
Getting a statement from the NatWest app
NatWest's answer on getting a copy of your statement (read on 26 October 2026) describes the app route:
- Log in and select the account.
- Tap the three-dot icon at the top and choose statements from the account menu.
- Select the statement you want.
- Tap the export button at the top right and choose how to export it.
The app also has a feature for single transactions: select a transaction and choose Create PDF to save or send a record of just that payment. It's useful when someone wants proof of one payment rather than a whole month.
Can you export NatWest transactions to Excel?
Yes, and this is one of the more useful things NatWest offers that many UK banks don't spell out. Its guide to searching for transactions online (read on 26 October 2026) says:
- Select Statements & transactions, then View transactions in the Your transactions section.
- Search by transaction type, date, description or amount.
- Use the search options to set what you want copied, then export or print it. NatWest says you can select the export format, including Excel and PDF.
The same page says you can view and search transactions and statements going back 7 years, provided the account was open for that whole period.
For a budget, a tax return or a bookkeeper, this export is the cleanest source: it comes straight from NatWest's records and needs no conversion. If you're bringing NatWest data into Xero or QuickBooks, start from the Excel export and rearrange the columns to the layout the software expects; our pages on CSV for Xero and the QuickBooks integration describe those layouts.
What do the codes on a NatWest statement mean?
NatWest publishes a list of the transaction-type abbreviations printed on statements. A selection of the ones people ask about most, from its statement abbreviations page (read on 26 October 2026):
| Code | NatWest's meaning |
|---|---|
| BAC | Automated Credit |
| BGC | Bank Giro Credit |
| CHP | Payment by CHAPS transfer |
| C/L | Cashline (cash machine / ATM withdrawal) |
| D/D | Direct Debit |
| DPC | Direct Banking by PC (a payment or transfer made using online banking) |
| DR | Account overdrawn or debit item |
| N-S TRN FEE | Non Sterling Transaction Fee |
| OTR | Online Banking Transaction |
| POS | Point of Sale / debit card transaction |
| S/O | Standing Order |
| TFR | Transfer |
| VRATE | Visa Payment Scheme Exchange Rate |
Two practical notes. "Charge" now appears as a word where older statements printed CHG. And if a POS line names a retailer you don't recognise, NatWest's page links to help with identifying it. If the transaction isn't yours, report it rather than waiting for the next statement.
When you convert statements into a spreadsheet, these codes are worth keeping as a separate column: filtering on D/D or S/O is the fastest way to list every regular commitment on the account.
How do you get a paper NatWest statement?
NatWest's first answer is to print the PDF yourself. If you can't print or have no printer, it asks you to contact it through Cora, its AI assistant, after logging in:
- Online Banking: from the home screen, click Chat to Cora and type "Help with my statement".
- Mobile app: on the home screen, tap Help, then Chat to Cora, and type "Help with my statement".
If you can't log in at all, NatWest's page offers a Cora chat button that works without logging in. NatWest's page doesn't give a delivery time for posted copies, so ask when you request one.
Credit card statements
NatWest treats credit card statements the same way as current and savings accounts in Online Banking: its copy-statement answer says you can save and print PDF versions of online statements for your current account, savings accounts or credit card. Pick the card in the account selector under Statements & transactions. NatWest's app pages also mention viewing card details and making payments to your credit card in the app.
How do you get statements for a closed NatWest account?
NatWest's answer on ordering a statement for a closed account (read on 26 October 2026) calls this a transaction history list, and the route depends on your situation:
- Still a NatWest customer (personal or business, without a relationship manager): ask Cora.
- No longer hold any NatWest products: visit a branch, or send your local branch your full name, business name if relevant, statement address, sort code and account number, the exact period you need, and your signature matching the account mandate.
- Relationship-managed business customers: send the same details to the postal address NatWest lists on that page.
You can request history up to five years after closing the account, and choose the date range within those five years. NatWest points out the consequence: ask four years after closing and you'll get only the final year the account was open. In branch, bring the sort code and account number plus the usual proof of identity and address. Because the history is printed, NatWest asks you to name the exact period you need.
When the PDF is all you have
For anything inside seven years on an open account, use the Excel export. Conversion is for the leftovers: a printed closed-account history you've scanned, PDFs a client emailed you, or statements older than the export reaches. QuickBankConvert turns statement PDFs into rows with date, description, category and signed amount, and it isn't tied to particular countries, though we haven't specifically tested NatWest's layout. Scans read less reliably than bank-generated PDFs, so check totals carefully. CSV and Excel downloads need only a free account; see pricing for higher volumes.
