State Employees Credit Union Bank Statement (SECU)

7 min readOctober 26, 2026

Quick Answer: State Employees' Credit Union (SECU, North Carolina) puts statements in Member Access and the SECU App, where you can view, print or download them. To get e-statements, enroll in Member Access, accept the E-Sign Agreement, and choose Statements from the Member Access menu. Paper statements are free, and e-statement members can pick an alternate cycle date.

A State Employees' Credit Union statement is a monthly document you download from Member Access, SECU's online banking, or from the SECU App. What sets SECU apart is how much control you have over the statement itself: you can combine several accounts into one statement, move the cycle date if you take e-statements, and request braille or large print, all without a paper fee.

This guide is about the North Carolina credit union at ncsecu.org, which describes itself as the second-largest credit union in the United States, with 3 million members and branches in all 100 North Carolina counties. Other credit unions with similar names exist; their menus will not match what follows.

Where do SECU statements live?

SECU's Statements page (read on 26 October 2026) lists the options:

  • E-statements in Member Access, viewable on a computer, tablet or phone at any time.
  • Paper statements mailed to the address on file.
  • Braille and large print statements, requested at your local branch or within Member Access.

The same page says you can "print or download statements for safekeeping", and that year-end tax documents are in Member Access alongside them. The SECU App gives you the same Member Access experience, plus phone-only features such as mobile check deposit and biometric sign-in.

How do you get e-statements from SECU?

Enrollment has one prerequisite that trips people up: you must be signed up for Member Access first, and that sign-up requires consenting to SECU's E-Sign Agreement. Once you are in:

  1. Sign in to Member Access (on the web or through the SECU App).
  2. Open the Member Access menu and select Statements.
  3. Set up e-statements for the accounts you want, and save.
  4. Download the PDF for any month you need and store it outside Member Access.

If you are opening Member Access for the first time, the enrollment link is on SECU's sign-in page. Members who already bank online can skip straight to step 2.

Is there a fee for SECU paper statements?

No. SECU's FAQ answers this directly: "SECU does not charge a fee to receive paper statements." That is less common than it should be, and it means there is no penalty for keeping paper while you test e-statements. Opting out of paper is presented as a choice for "added account security and less clutter", not something you are pushed into.

Combined statements: one PDF, several accounts

SECU lets you combine multiple accounts into a single statement, with limits. Its notes say account type and ownership decide which accounts can be combined, and that first mortgage loans and credit cards cannot be combined with other account statements.

That convenience has a cost when you want the data in a spreadsheet. A combined statement is one document with several account sections, so:

What you wantBetter statement setup
A single household overview each monthCombined statement
Rows for one checking account in a budget or accounting fileThat account's statement on its own, if your setup allows it
Credit card or first mortgage historyAlways a separate statement anyway
Totals per account for a loan applicationEither works, but split rows by section after converting a combined one

If you convert a combined statement, expect every section's transactions in one list. Transfers between your own SECU accounts will show up twice, once leaving one account and once arriving in the other. Sort by section before totalling, or you will double-count them.

Can you change your SECU statement date?

Yes, with e-statements. SECU explains that statements are generated monthly, that the statement date is the day your cycle ends, and that cycles end on credit union business days, so the date can shift from month to month. Members enrolled in e-statements can select an alternate e-statement cycle in their statement preferences within Member Access.

SECU also notes that first mortgage loan and credit card cycle dates "are not based on your ZIP code and cannot be adjusted", which tells you two things: the default cycle for other accounts is tied to where you live, and only deposit-style statements can be moved.

Why bother moving it? If you keep books by calendar month, a statement that ends on the 17th means every month's reconciliation straddles two periods. Choosing a cycle that ends near month end lines the statement up with your budget or your business ledger. It will still vary by a day or two because of business days, so reconcile to the statement's printed closing date, not to the 30th or 31st.

How far back can you see SECU statements?

SECU's statements page talks about "historical statements" in Member Access but does not publish a number of months or years. Rather than guess, check what your own Member Access shows, download everything you might need, and ask Member Services Support at (888) 732-8562 for anything older. SECU's statements page does not list a fee or turnaround for archive copies, so ask when you call.

Our guide to getting old bank statements has a short script for that kind of request.

Getting SECU transactions into a spreadsheet

SECU's Member Access page describes money-management tools rather than an export button: transactions organized into editable categories, spending goals, and transaction history viewed by category or date across your SECU accounts and any external accounts you connect. That is useful for seeing where money goes inside Member Access. SECU's pages do not mention downloading those transactions as CSV, Quicken or QuickBooks files, so check your Member Access account for a download option before assuming there is none.

When what you have is a stack of statement PDFs, the practical options are:

  • Retype the few lines you need. Fine for one disputed charge.
  • Try Excel's own Get Data from PDF import on a single statement (Microsoft's Excel help covers it). It works when the statement's table is clean and falls apart on wrapped descriptions.
  • Use a statement converter. QuickBankConvert turns each statement PDF into rows with date, description, category, signed amount and balance, and shows the account number, period and opening and closing balances so you can check them against SECU's figures. A free account can download Excel or CSV for three statements a month; see pricing for larger volumes.

Credit union statements have their own quirks, like share accounts and loans printed in one document; our guide to converting credit union statements goes through them.

A short checklist

  • Enrolled in Member Access? Without it there are no e-statements.
  • Combined or separate? Decide based on what you will do with the data.
  • Cycle date set? Move it if you reconcile by calendar month.
  • History saved? Download PDFs now; do not rely on any portal as your only archive.
  • Tax forms grabbed? Year-end documents are in Member Access next to statements.
  • Checked the conversion? Match the closing balance and transaction count with the PDF. The file you upload to our converter is stored on our servers; you can ask for deletion through the contact page.

Does SECU charge for paper statements?

No. SECU states that it does not charge a fee to receive paper statements.
