M&T Bank Statement PDF: Download Up to 7 Years Online

6 min readOctober 26, 2026

Quick Answer: Sign in to M&T Online Banking and open the Statements and Notices service, where M&T keeps up to seven years of statements as PDFs for checking, savings, CDs, credit cards, loans, lines of credit, mortgages and home equity accounts. Older copies, or paper ones, come from M&T customer service and may carry a charge. For spreadsheet rows, use M&T's own export of recent activity or convert the PDF.

An M&T Bank statement PDF lives in the Statements and Notices section of M&T Online Banking, and M&T's Digital Services Agreement says documents stay there for seven years while you remain enrolled in electronic delivery. That makes the PDF archive the deepest record M&T gives you online; the transaction search in the app reaches far less, and the spreadsheet export covers only recent history.

Where M&T keeps your statements

M&T does not call the area "eStatements" inside online banking so much as Statements and Notices. It is one service that holds both the periodic statements and the notices M&T sends about your accounts, and it covers more than deposit accounts. M&T's e-statements page (read on 26 October 2026) lists the eligible account types:

  • Checking and savings
  • Certificates of deposit
  • Credit cards
  • Installment loans and lines of credit
  • Mortgages and home equity accounts

That breadth matters if you are gathering documents for a mortgage application or a tax preparer. A single login gives you the deposit statements a lender wants as well as the mortgage or home equity statements your accountant needs for interest, rather than one portal per product.

How do you turn on paperless statements at M&T?

The same M&T page gives the enrollment sequence in four short moves:

  1. Log in to M&T Online Banking (or enroll first if you have never set up a login).
  2. Update your delivery settings to choose electronic delivery.
  3. Accept the Digital Services Agreement.
  4. Start viewing statements and notices online.

M&T says you can switch back to paper later if you prefer it. The page does not spell out the exact menu labels inside online banking beyond those steps, so look for the delivery or document preferences in your profile settings once you are signed in; we have not listed a menu path we could not see on M&T's own site.

Going paperless has one side effect worth knowing. The Digital Services Agreement says that once you enroll, M&T may stop mailing paper copies of documents that are now delivered electronically. If you rely on a paper file at home, download each PDF when the notification arrives instead of assuming a paper copy is still on its way.

How far back can you download M&T statements?

Seven years. The Digital Services Agreement states that electronic documents "will be available to you at the Website for 7 years in the Statements and Notices service, as long as you are enrolled in the service and have elected to receive documents electronically."

Two conditions sit inside that sentence:

  • You must stay enrolled. If you switch back to paper, assume the online archive may not stay available in the same way, and save the PDFs you care about before changing the setting.
  • The clock is per document. A statement from eight years ago will have aged out even if your account has been open for twenty.

For anything older than seven years, or for a period before you enrolled, contact M&T customer service. The agreement says you can ask for a paper copy of an electronic document and that you "must pay us any applicable charge for the paper copy". The fee amount is in the Digital Services Fee Schedule section of that agreement and in your account's fee disclosure; check there rather than relying on a number from a third-party site. Our guide to getting old bank statements covers how to word that request and what to ask for.

Statement, search or export: which M&T tool fits?

M&T gives you three different ways to look at past activity, and they reach back very different distances.

ToolWhereHow far backWhat you get
Statements and NoticesOnline BankingUp to 7 yearsOfficial PDF statements and notices
Search TransactionsM&T Mobile Banking app90 days for an account; 24 months for bill payments and transfersOn-screen results
Account exportOnline Banking"Recent transaction history"A file for Quicken or a spreadsheet such as Excel
Direct ConnectQuicken or QuickBooksOngoing downloads after setupTransactions pulled into the Intuit software; carries a $9.95 monthly fee per M&T's page

The search limits come from M&T's online and mobile banking FAQ: select Search Transactions from the menu, then choose Account (up to 90 days in one account), Bill Payment (up to 24 months across your accounts) or Transfer (up to 24 months). If the purchase you are hunting for is four months old, the app search will not find it, but the statement for that month will.

What the export can and cannot do

The Digital Services Agreement allows you to "export account information for use with your personal financial management software (e.g., Quicken®) ... or other spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel®) for recent transaction history." It adds that the service is limited to certain eligible accounts, is not compatible with every version of Quicken-style software, and that M&T may change the file formats on offer without notice.

So the export is good for the last stretch of activity and poor for history. M&T does not define "recent" in the agreement, so check the date range the export screen offers before you plan around it. Once you need last year's rows, the statement PDF is the source.

Direct Connect is the paid alternative for Quicken and QuickBooks users: it downloads M&T transactions into the Intuit software using your M&T User ID and password. It suits ongoing bookkeeping. It does not backfill years of history, and it means giving your M&T credentials to the software connection.

Turning an M&T PDF into rows

When the export window is too short, the monthly PDF is what you work from. A few options, from cheapest to most structured:

  • Copy and paste from the PDF into Excel. Workable for one page; columns tend to collapse into a single cell for longer statements.
  • Excel's Get Data from PDF feature. It finds tables on each page, and you clean up headers and page breaks in Power Query.
  • A statement converter. QuickBankConvert reads the M&T PDF and gives you one row per transaction with date, description, category and a signed amount, plus the running balance where the statement prints one. You download the statement from M&T yourself and upload only that file; there is no M&T login involved. The file is sent to our servers to be parsed, a copy is kept, and you can ask for it to be removed through the contact page.

A free account downloads CSV or Excel; Quicken (QFX), QuickBooks (QBO) and QIF files need a paid plan, listed on the pricing page. For a walk-through of the conversion side specifically, see converting an M&T statement to Excel.

Checks before you rely on the rows

  • Match the opening and closing balance shown above the preview against the first page of the M&T PDF.
  • If you downloaded several months, confirm that each statement's ending balance equals the next one's beginning balance. A gap means a missing month.
  • Mortgage and home equity statements are laid out differently from checking statements. Convert them separately rather than stacking them into a single checking ledger.
  • Keep the original PDFs. A lender or auditor asking for "M&T statements" wants the bank's document, not a spreadsheet you produced.

Reading the documents you download

Because Statements and Notices mixes both kinds of document, the list you see after signing in may include notices (rate changes, account updates) alongside the monthly statements. When you are pulling a year of statements for taxes or a loan file, filter or sort by document type first so you do not save twelve notices and miss a month.

For credit card statements in the same archive, the interest charge line follows the issuer's daily-rate method; our explanation of how credit card interest is calculated walks through it with numbers.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many years of statements does M&T Bank keep online?

M&T's Digital Services Agreement says electronic documents stay in the Statements and Notices service for 7 years, as long as you remain enrolled in electronic delivery.

Can I get an M&T statement older than seven years?

Ask M&T customer service. The agreement says you can request a paper copy of a document and may have to pay an applicable charge; the amount is in M&T's fee schedule.

Does M&T let me download transactions to Excel or Quicken?

Yes, for recent transaction history on eligible accounts, according to the Digital Services Agreement. M&T also offers Direct Connect for Quicken and QuickBooks, which its website lists at $9.95 per month.

Why can't the M&T app find a transaction from five months ago?

Search Transactions in the mobile app looks back up to 90 days within an account. For anything older, open the statement for that month in Statements and Notices.

Will M&T still mail paper statements after I go paperless?

M&T may stop mailing paper copies once you enroll in electronic delivery. Its e-statements page says you can switch back to paper later.
